Marine carpet lives a harder life than anything in your house
It gets soaked, it dries in direct sun, it takes lake sand from bare feet, sunscreen, fish, bait, drinks and dogs, and then it sits under a cover in the dark for six months. Sun fades it, moisture feeds mildew and odor, and sand grinds at the backing every time somebody moves around the cockpit.

The lake season sets the schedule
Around Lake Coeur d’Alene, Hayden Lake and Newman Lake, boats come out in spring and go away in fall, and both ends of that are the right time to clean.
